The Makaton Charity

The client: Makaton is the UK's leading language programme for children and adults with communication or learning difficulties. Makaton uses signs, symbols and speech to develop communication, language and literacy skills. The Makaton Charity provides advice, training, and resources for families, carers and professionals. We work to share our knowledge and influence society to improve communication for all. 

 

The Design & Resource Development Manager got in contact with me as they was wanted to build a catalogue of designers that they can assign work with.

The briefs: Produce official resources and documents such as certificates, vocabulary resources, downloadable booklets as well as signs and symbols.

 

Working with this client has taught me why and how brand guidelines should be followed. Being a form of communication, there can be no errors to a sign or symbol as it could change the whole meaning/purpose.
