The client: I teach these for Bread + Roses. They're usually 1 to 1 but I have taught to small groups before.
The lessons: To start it off, I introduce myself and show them a few projects so they get an idea of what is capable. Examples of the halftone effect on images + text, fold-up zines and posters. Next I show them how to create the master slides using Adobe Photoshop. Usually I make their ideas into a design but a few people have brought in their own designs and experimented with them.
They get to use the printer after a brief tutorial from myself and I leave them to try it out by themselves. We have a selection of paper available which lets me lead onto adjusting the Riso to different sizes and thicknesses of paper.
By the end of the session, they will have a couple solid final prints that they're happy with. A few students have came back to use the printer so I'd say it is going great. I always try to better myself and figure out how I can make it relatable for people from different artistic backgrounds.
